When a card cracks or gets scratched, a new one is printed. The card itself may be cheap. Personalising, encoding and distributing it is not.
A holder keeps the card out of daily wear. A yoyo reel lets it be pulled out and released, so nobody has to lift a lanyard over their head at a turnstile. The holders work with RFID and magnetic cards without blocking the read.
