Metal is a hard surface for RFID: it reflects the signal and kills the read. On-metal designs solve that, and in most models the price of the fix is size.
This one fits into 5 mm. It sits in a hole drilled in a tool handle, a recess in a die, or on a small fitting. The EPC area is user-programmable, so your own numbering scheme carries straight over.
